Pulse-Light Clinic, Specialists in Intense Pulse Light - IPL Photorejuvenation

.

Discover the Light that erases Skin Damage and treats conditions such as Rosacea

Rosacea is a skin ailment that leaves people red faced with chronic flushing. This is caused by the dilation of capillaries and blood vessels. Rosacea can also cause white pimples and blisters on the nose and cheeks. This condition can affect both men and women. IPL can successfully treat dilated blood vessels and redness without injuring the surrounding healthy skin, while greatly reducing the episodes of flushing with long-term effectiveness.

A professional and social debilitating symptom of the condition is facial flushing. This is the chronic “red face” or extreme blushing experienced by Rosacea sufferers.

A highly successful treatment adopted by the Pulse Light Clinic has been the two-tier approach to this debilitating condition.

Our IPL experts specialize in the treatment of Rosacea and are able to achieve good to excellent clearance of telangiectasia (broken blood vessels) and the chronic red face, as well as a significant decrease in the intensity and duration of the facial flush, by simultaneously addressing the underlying condition with the use of natural supplementation.

Over the past eight years here at the Pulse Light Clinic, we have seen that following a rosacea diet has produced mixed results. Most of our clients are City workers who are time pressured, to say the least, and so have very little time to at attend to strict dietary demands.

Consequently, we have devoted considerable resources to supplementary research for Rosacea and have worked closely with nutritionists to find the most applicable supplementation to be used in conjunction with IPL for the control of the condition. We now incorporate supplements into our treatment programme with great success.

It is also extremely important to add vitamin and mineral supplements to help control flare-ups, especially the “red face” blush. Rosacea is not curable and there are a number of things that can trigger the appearance of acne rosacea patient’s experience. Certain minerals and vitamins have been proven effective in reducing these alarming symptoms.

What is IPL Photorejuvenation?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) skin treatments using the photorejuvenation process represents a breakthrough in age-defying skin treatment. This new technique treats sun damaged skin non-invasively, with no disruption of the skin's epidermal surface. IPL treatments address the effects of photo aging and sun damage with low risk of complications and little or no recovery time.

The visible signs of aging cannot be fully avoided, but can be dramatically minimized. The rate of these events is genetically determined for each person; the process first becomes noticeable between the ages of 30 and 35. Ageing results from exposure to the environment.

It is the critical element in determining who looks older or younger than their biological age. Exposure to sunlight is a key contributor to aging. Photo aging occurs, when collagen and elastin breakdown are not replaced within the skin, causing fine lines and wrinkles to intensify. Skin loses elasticity causing skin laxity. Photo aging also causes pigment changes with development of age spots (sun-induced freckles) and uneven skin tone. Dilated capillaries are another sign of photo-aged skin. Lifestyle choices also have an impact on aging. Cigarette smoking contributes to the breakdown of elastin and collagen and impairs the body's healing capacity.

What is Intense Pulsed Light?

Quantum IPLTM (Intense Pulsed Light) Technology is a treatment breakthrough that can correct a variety of benign skin conditions, such as facial skin imperfections, the signs of photo-aging, birthmarks, unsightly small veins and other blemishes. It offers a safe, non-invasive solution that can tailor to your individual condition and skin type, providing superior cosmetic results and outstanding satisfaction, through the process called Photorejuvenation.

How Does IPL Helps Restore the Skin's Youthful Glow?

There are an overwhelming number of options available to improve aged skin's appearance, from creams and peels to microdermabrasion and laser treatments. Can any of these procedures provide significant improvement without interrupting daily routines?

IPL Skin Treatments using Photorejuvenation offers a solution that:
  • Addresses skin conditions that are most visible
  • Treats the entire face, not only small spots
  • Causes little discomfort
  • Offers an immediate return to routine activities
  • Provides gradual, natural-looking improvement
  • Produces long-lasting results
Photorejuvenation with IPL is the most versatile of all treatment options. Patients often schedule appointments during their lunch hours. IPL can treat numerous skin conditions at once. It is effective on red blemishes that originate from blood vessels, as well as brown pigment blemishes in the form of freckles, age spots and other sun damage. IPL also treats the neck, chest and hands, where sun damage is often most visible.

Consultation

At the Pulse-Light Clinic, we offer a private and thorough consultation. A highly trained nurse practitioner will then determine an IPL treatment plan for each new patient, taking into account the severity of the skin condition being treated, as well as the skin type. On average, three to six treatments are recommended, scheduled at three to four week intervals. Each session usually lasting about 40-45 minutes, with patients returning to normal activity immediately afterwards. IPL treatments provide gradual, natural improvement with excellent long-term results.

What to expect during treatment

A cold gel is usually applied to the area to be treated, and dark glasses are given to you to protect your eyes from the bright light. The hand piece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light are applied. You may feel a slight sting, like a snapping of a small rubber band.

During treatment, a physician or trained nurse practitioner gently applies the smooth, glass surface of the IPL hand piece to the skin. Light is delivered to the skin surface in precise gradient movements. To realize the full potential of IPL and to ensure its safety, the person delivering the treatment must be an experienced, highly trained medical professional. This is the difference between success and failure with IPL.

IPL treats the damaged superficial layer of the skin, while delivering thermal energy to deeper tissue. Clinical studies are now available to measure the effect this energy has on collagen production, which helps firm and tighten the skin.

Why are multiple treatments necessary?

Depending on the number of conditions you are treating, and severity of the individual problem, a series of four to six treatment sessions may be recommended. You can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities.

By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk – and, it preserves the wonderful “no down time” feature that people appreciate so much.

Imperfections from Sun Damage

Facial imperfections or abnormalities can detract from your well being and appearance, no matter how healthy and young you feel. IPL technology helps create smoother looking skin. After a series of treatments, you can see a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation. The same treatment can be used effectively on the neck, chest, arms and hands.

Benign Vascular Lesions: Broken Veins and Capillaries

The face has an extensive network of veins and tiny blood vessels called capillaries. Over time, aging, trauma, sun exposure, and certain lifestyle factors cause a number of them to break appearing as red streaks or blotches on the face. IPL therapy can eliminate damaged veins and capillaries by removing virtually all traces of these unsightly blemishes.

I was one of the worst cases of Rosacea the clinic had ever seen

My Rosacea before treatment

After treatment

I have no hesitation in highly recommending the Pulse-Light Clinic

"Having suffered from Rosacea for many years and having tried a variety of pills and potions, none of which worked, it got to the stage where most of my face was covered in unsightly broken veins. I also had outbreaks of sores now and again a side effect of Rosacea, which were controlled by medication.

A doctor I saw privately was unable to help me. He did however tell me about Pulsed Light Treatment and armed with a list of questions he advised me to ask the people I contacted I headed for the internet.

I chose three companies to contact and picked up the telephone. The first company wouldn’t answer any questions over the telephone. The second company I contacted answered some but not all of my questions and refused to give me even a ball part figure on cost. The third call was to Sheila MacLean at Pulse Light Clinic; it wasn’t just third time lucky I STRUCK GOLD.

Sheila answered all my questions without hesitation and explained in detail what the treatment was all about. She showed interest in my condition, was happy to spend time talking to me and although very professional she spoke to me in such a way that I easily understood the treatment. She suggested that the next time I was to be in London I make an appointment to see her so she could have a look at me. I made an appointment there and then, definitely one of my better decisions.

Two weeks later I met Sheila for the first time and she immediately put me at ease. She stated that I was one of the worst cases of Rosacea she had seen and she agreed to begin treatment. The treatment itself is not painful but can sometimes be a little uncomfortable, like someone flicking an elastic band, however it is not lingering discomfort and it is a very small price to pay for the incredible results achieved which were very obvious after only a few treatments. Although I was initially sceptical, Sheila also advised me on natural supplements I could take to help my Rosacea and I can honestly say that I have noticed a great difference whilst taking them. I have not had an outbreak of sores for over a year.

Sheila MacLean is not only a highly skilled professional with obvious technical knowledge of her subject; she is also a very lovely lady who takes time with her clients. I have no hesitation in highly recommending the Pulse-Light Clinic and I would like to thank Sheila MacLean for all she has done for me.

Apologies for the bad before pictures. Most have been destroyed!"

The broken blood vessels on my face have gone

BEFORE: What's Mark's cheek used to look like before the treatment
image: http://www.prettylikeme.com

Mark Cummins put up with a very visible bloodshot cheek since the late 70s. Luckily, he came across the Pulse-Light Clinic and now the unsightly condition, which did nothing for Mark's self-confidence, is a thing of the past.

When Mark was in his 20s, he decided to join the Territorial Army, and he regularly found himself on the shooting range at Bisley, competing as a member of the TA shooting team. What appears to have happened is that the powerful recoil of the gun, constantly bruising his right cheek, left permanant broken blood vessel and capillary damage. As time progressed, the area of his cheek became more visible as an underlying condition of rosacea worsened.

It just so happens that Mark's brother, Roger, works in the same building at the Pulse-Light Clinic in Fenchurch Street in the City of London, which specializes in treating rosacea. So Mark, who is a chartered surveyor from Leicester, went and had a free consultation at the clinic where he was told that the treatment - Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) - would get rid of the condition for him in only six months, at one session a month and at a price that Mark felt was very reasonable. What's more, the clinic was offering a guarantee whereby he would continue to receive treatments until resolution of the condition, at no extra charge. This appealed to Mark as he had heard about other clinics which went through the motions of delivering their treatments without any degree of resultion and with no end in sight - all at extra charge.

So, about 18 months ago, he went ahead and had it done over the six-month period, with each session taking about 45 minutes. "It felt a bit like someone pinging an elastic band at me," says Mark. "It was not unpleasant, just slightly uncomfortable - but there's no gain without pain as they say!"

AFTER: How Mark looks today

"I'm now very happy that it's been sorted out once and for all. It's been on my mind since I was in my 20s and it really didn't help my self-confidence as a young lad. I was very conscious of it but now it has gone and I feel much more confident about myself when I am with others. The treatment was very effective and Pulse-Light Clinic have done a good job."

Pulse-Light Clinic treats a wide range of conditions such as rosacea, sun-damaged skin and excessive freckling and is also effective in the removal of birthmarks, blemishes and tattoos. For a free consultation, contact us on 020 7929 7992 or webcontact@pulselightclinic.co.uk
